Torrox Costa is a popular coastal resort with a good selection of restaurants and bars along its two splendid maritime promenades which follow the 9 kilometres of wide sandy beaches. Although there are some relatively high rise apartment blocks, on side of the main area are more rustic low rise buildings and bamboo fringed beaches. Explore further inland and you will find the pretty white washed villages of the Axarquia such as Torrox Pueblo and Competa.
El Morche, on the coast to the west of Torrox Costa, is a small unspoilt seaside village. To the east of the main town, alongside the lighthouse, the new 'Balcon de Torrox' has been constructed as a lookout to the sea and headlands and with transparent flooring looking down on the preserved remains of a Roman necropolis.
The River Torrox irrigates the area supplying water for the cultivation of sub-tropical and greenhouse fruits on the coast and vineyards and olive trees inland.
Torrox Costa is a great holiday base as there are excellent bus services along the coast to the east (to Nerja) and to the west (to Torre del Mar and Malaga ). Add to this the excellent local facilities and clean beach and you have an ideal holiday destination.
