The typically Spanish village of Almachar is situated 26 km east of Málaga and 14 km from the coast at Torre del Mar. The area is well known for the growing of fruit and vegetables aided by the fertile lands which surround the village. A popular fiesta takes place in September paying homage to the traditional dish of ‘ajo blanco’ – cold garlic and almond soup.
