Daimalos is an unspoilt rural village situated 47 kilometres from Malaga and 14 kilometres from the coast at Torre del Mar at an altitude of 420 metres. It takes about 15 minutes to drive to the coast. This small, attractive, whitewashed village has a permanent population of approximately 50 and lies within the municipality of the village of Arenas within the area of Axarquia on the scenic Mudejar Route .
Locally Daimalos is known for the production of a rich, delicious oloroso wine and is also home to another interesting liquid. The fountain of love, dating from Arab times, is said to have water with aphrodisiacal powers.
The name of the village is thought to be derived from the Arab word for "cortijo" (a group of farmhouses). The church of Iglesia de la Concepcion was built on the site of a mosque. It houses some important paintings and has a 13th century Mudejar minaret.
