Sedella lies 62 kilometres from Malaga and 20 to 30 minutes drive from the coastal resorts of Nerja and Torre del Mar. It stands at 689 metres altitude in the foothills of the Sierra Tejeda and Sierra Almijara mountain ranges. There are magnificent views of these mountains and on clear days you can also see the Atlas Mountains.

It is Arabic in origin and the architecture reflects that of the ancient Muslim Arabs (known as Moors or Mudejars) who remained in Spain after it had been reconquered by the Christians in the Middle Ages. It has narrow winding streets, white washed houses, courtyards and gardens. Within the village the Casa Torreón is built in a Renaissance-Mudejar style and the church of San Andrés has a preserved 16th century tower. Near to the village the remains of an old military fortress can be found.

The village has a population of about 700 mainly Spanish residents. However the village is becoming increasingly popular with Northern Europeans and as a result its amenities are improving rapidly. If you want to get to the coast there are two buses a day but in the village you have supermarkets, bakers, several restaurants and bars and a part-time bank. There is also a doctor's surgery and a pharmacy. A significant recent improvement to the local facilities is the local municipal swimming pool with its own bar
